An Employment Summit with a Difference

Assisting the young and the disadvantaged to gain meaningful employment is one of the most important challenges facing the Western Sydney area.

Improving job prospects for these groups is one of the outcomes expected from the Western Sydney Employment Networking Summit to be held at Mamre Homestead on Tuesday 30 October, 2007.

The Summit

The Summit will be attended by senior industry representatives, employer groups and job network providers who will identify and develop practical approaches for improving employment services and job prospects.

The summit idea evolved from a meeting between Mamre Homestead and the Sydney Business Consultants Group, a network of senior consultants with expertise in various disciplines and industries. The group is an initiative is an initiative of the Penrith Valley Economic Development Corporation (PVEDC).

Describing the creation of such a group as unique, the PVEDC Acting Chief Executive Officer, Steve Willingale, said the successful completion of this project will demonstrate the need that Penrith Valley has for such a diverse range of talent in one consulting group.

Mamre Project

“In collaboration with Sister Mary-Louise Petro‘s Mamre Project, the Sydney Business Consultants Group is helping employment stakeholders to find better ways to provide unemployed people with the necessary skills to find meaningful jobs”, Mr Willingale said.

In addition the Sydney Business Consultants Group is assisting Mamre Homestead in improving their website and identifying opportunities for expanding their business services.

“They have taken the decision to do these projects firstly to demonstrate their ability to handle a variety of tasks within the one organisation, and secondly to support an organisation that has a long track record of helping the local community and one which has limited funds”, Mr Willingale added.

Department of Employment and Workplace Relations

The Western Sydney Employment Summit will be briefed by The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations on the current labour market, innovations in Job network service delivery, and the utilisation of support services to develop job ready clients. Two hands-on workshops on the day will ensure a diverse range of ideas will be identified and examined.

“It is anticipated that the Summit will assist Western Sydney labour market stakeholders to identify and develop practical approaches for improving services and outcomes across the employment service industry”, Mr Willingale further added.
